Breaking free from the constraints of photorealism, during the 80’s and 90’s, Donna White successfully exhibited her large gestural and colourful paintings at various group and solo shows in South Africa and Germany. Her work from this period was also exhibited on a retrospective exhibition of Photorealism at the Pretoria Art Museum. The highlight of her early work was to be included in an exhibition curated by the legendary art critic Clement Greenberg, ‘Art South Africa Today’, and the inclusion in a book on South African art. She participated in many fairs and exhibitions like New Artist Fair, Spring Exhibition of Arts 2013 organised by Friends of the Children’s Trust, Art on the street in Maidenhead. She was shortlisted artist of the Year 2011 in the “Artists and Illustrators” Magazine, section Still Life. In July 2018, her paintings were on display in the iconic building “The Curve” in Slough as a solo exhibition entitled “The highlights of an artist”.
She has been featured in the local newspapers and shortlisted Local Hero Award by Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce Group. She aims to depict the memories from travelling combined with personal experiences through intense contrasting colours, texture, and mixed media.ĭuring lockdown due to Covid-19, Marinela documented the times by creating daily artworks depicting police enforcement images, people applauding the NHS, isolation, price hikes and mental health.
She feels that the artistic exchange between the land and the artist opens up many opportunities. Marinela cherishes the connection between the artist and nature.
